Experience Smallworld GIS in 3D
Imagine the benefits of
viewing your existing two dimensional data in a near real-time 3D environment.
Imagine the enhanced
communication level when you present your data in a realistic 3D environment.
Imagine the 3D spatial knowledge
gained before implementation. Imagine no
more; it is reality with IT3D® from Field Consulting and Services.
3D is Easy!
IT3D is a do it yourself product that allows you to convert your 2D data into
a 3D environment. After initial mapping of what objects and attributes to use,
creating 3D environments is a point and click away. You do not need to send your
data out to a 3rd party and wait on them for your 3D data.
GIS Interactivity
The following functions allow interactivity between the IT3D Viewer and your
GIS application.
- Define the viewpoint of the Viewer from within the GIS application.
- Show the current Viewer eye point location and orientation as an overlay
in your GIS application.
- Create a flight path for the Viewer within the GIS application.
- Select features in the Viewer and view or edit their attribution from your
GIS application.
- Select a feature in your GIS application and highlight it in the Viewer.
- Dynamically add and move features to the 3D environment from your GIS
application.
- Dynamically add Lines of Site to the 3D environment created in your GIS
application.
Powerful 3D Viewer
The 3D viewer is an adaptation of simulator quality image generation used for
commercial and military training applications. The high quality image generation
gives you the ability to control features like Time of Day, Fog, Dynamic Paging
of data to support large areas.
The Process
IT3D leverages your existing data within your Smallworld GIS to provide a 3D
simulated scene. There is a simple API that allows you to use your current
attribution to define the required 3D environment attributes during the export
process.
- Building footprints and forest boundaries.
- Are extruded to a defined height based on any current attribution.
- The sides are given a texture from the texture library or from a digital
image you created.
- Power lines and poles.
- The lines are converted into 3D line geometry with a sag to give a
realistic representation.
- The pole locations and orientations are used to place 3D pole models
from model library or from any that you created.
- Smallworld Rasters are exported to tiled imagery that is blanketed on top
of the TIN (Triangulated Irregular Network).
- Smallworld TIN geometry is exported with image coordinate data.
- Point features, like cell towers, wind turbines, and individual trees,
within Smallworld can be exported and replaced with a 3D model.
- Pipes are extruded into 3D geometries which have real diameters which
gives you a true feel of the size of the pipe when included with other
features in the 3D scene.
